There is rarely a time when it is necessary to pay full price in today’s competitive market – regardless of the item being purchased. If you are not taking advantage of the numerous discount programs and deal-seeking sites available, your hard earned cash is being wasted.
“I forgot!” is no longer an excuse either. With the money-saving apps available for smartphones, you can grab coupons, compare prices, join loyalty programs and more while on the go.
SavingStar is one of my favorite coupon programs. No printing. No clipping. Instead, e-coupons are loaded onto your grocer’s loyalty card. When you purchase the item connected to the coupon, you receive the e-coupon’s value back in cash. This app will allow you to receive notifications as new coupons become available and see what coupons you have activated while on-the-go (I.e. in the grocery store).
Coupon Sherpa – This app has been around since 2009 – before they even had a website. The Coupon Sherpa staff searches for and validates coupons you can use at your favorite merchants. The app is easy to use. The coupons are presented in an easy-to-locate manner. Simply locate the applicable coupon and show your smartphone to your cashier.
KeyRing – Speaking of loyalty cards – how many are in your wallet right now? It seems every store has a rewards program, each with its own card and key ring tag. With this app, you can scan those cards into your smartphone, join new programs, check your points and receive notifications of members’ only sales and discounts.
Groupon – Your money-saving smartphone wouldn’t be complete without the biggest daily deal app. You no longer need to worry about printing or remembering those vouchers. Another program I use often is Living Social.
RedLaser – This is a power little price comparison app. Scan the barcode of an item you would like to purchase and RedLaser will check prices locally and online. If it finds a better deal, you can buy the product online instantly, head up the street to the store with the lower price or simply hand over your smartphone if your store does price matching. As an added feature, RedLaser will alert you to allergens in food products.
GasBuddy – This site has been saving people money on gas for years. They now have an app. Find the cheapest gas near you and earn points for updating local prices.
Those are a few of my favorite ways to save money on the go. What money-saving apps are on your smartphone?
